About Millers Stamp Shop
Verna Miller, Owner pictured below in Mexico at daughter Rachael's wedding.
You could say I was born with a postage stamp in my cradle. My father, Arthur Coombs, was one of the founding members of the Thames Stamp Club in New London, Connecticut. I grew up watching him buy, sell, and trade stamps and covers in our home and observed his love of the hobby of collecting. As his only child, he was anxious that I too would enjoy stamps. He started me out with a coloring book and piles of stamps sorted by colors that I licked and stuck into the book.
In 1967, I married someone who happened to also be a stamp collector, together we opened Millers Stamp Shop in 1969. The business quickly expanded from our living room to a retail store next to our home where I ran the shop full-time for 23 years. During this period, Miller Stamp Shop grew to be one of the largest stamp inventories in the region. Also during this time, I became the mother of three wonderful children with whom I shared my love of stamp collecting.
In 1993, following the retail store’s third of four major building additions, Miller Stamp Shop expanded nationally, traveling to the major stamp shows and expositions. We also expanded our small, local auctions to a major quarterly auction with bidders from around the country and internationally.
In 2005, my husband and I divorced and now I am running the shop on my own. In this journey into a new part of my life, I look forward to sharing my love of stamp collecting with my customers, both new and old. This means that my customers can look forward to a renewed attention to quality and personal service and, most of all, the love of this wonderful hobby. Whether you are an advanced or beginning collector, or if you are selling stamps, you can expect the high level of professionalism that has made Miller Stamp Shop a name you can trust.
